How to bedazzle a champagne bottle

Step 1: Gather your supplies

Tip your flatbacks into the sorting tray so they are easy to reach. Make sure the tip of your wax picker is sharp, which makes lifting each crystal easier, then load your E6000 glue into the syringe.

Step 2: Map out your design

Before gluing, plan your placement, which matters most around lettering and smaller areas. You can follow the bottle's own label design or create your own, and on glass you can use a positioner or wax pencil to draw the design out first.

Step 3: Place the crystals

Apply the glue a little at a time, using just enough to hold each stone, as too much looks messy. Because glass is smooth, leave the glue to go tacky for around five to ten minutes before placing the crystals, so they do not slip during application. Lift each crystal into place with the wax picker.

Step 4: Inspect and adjust

Once everything is placed, check your work, and add, remove or straighten any crystals that are out of line or not sitting flat against the bottle before the glue sets.

Step 5: Leave to cure

Leave the bottle to cure for at least 12 hours so the bond is fully set before you display or gift it.

Frequently asked questions

How do you bedazzle a champagne bottle?

Clean the glass, plan or draw your design, then glue flatback crystals on one at a time with a strong adhesive. Because glass is smooth, let the glue go tacky before placing each stone, work in sections around the curve, and leave it to cure fully before displaying.

What glue works best on a glass bottle?

A flexible, industrial-strength adhesive such as E6000. On glass it helps to apply the glue and then wait around five to ten minutes for it to become tacky before pressing on each crystal, which stops them sliding on the smooth, curved surface.

How do you apply crystals neatly to a curved bottle?

Map your design first, and on glass you can use a positioner or wax pencil to draw it out before you start. Work in small sections, use larger crystals on the body and smaller sizes around the neck and curves, and follow the bottle's lines for an even finish.

How many crystals do I need for a champagne bottle?

It depends on how much you cover. A full ombre design like this uses several hundred flatbacks across a range of sizes. Use our Crystal Calculator to estimate by area before you buy, so you order enough in one batch for consistent colour.

Can you still open a bedazzled champagne bottle?

Treat it as a keepsake or gift. If you do plan to open it, keep the crystals well clear of the foil, cage and cork at the top, and never place crystals where someone would drink from. Most embellished bottles are kept as a display piece or opened carefully.

Which crystals and colours should I use?

Any flatback colours work; we used an ombre of Rose Peach, Indian Pink and Silk for a soft, romantic blend. We used premium Swarovski here, and you can also use Czech-made Preciosa, our own Austrian-made Serinity, or budget Estella in your chosen shades.

Make it your own

Try a single colour, a monogram, or a different ombre to match the occasion. For a matching celebration set, see our crystal wedding glasses project, or our embellished prosecco bottle for a different bottle. You can also explore the full Craft Studio.
