Want a quick, sunny make that turns heads? This guide shows you how to bedazzle a visor with Serinity non-hotfix flatback crystals, edging the rim in bright citrus green rhinestones for a fresh, summer ready finish.

It is a beginner-friendly make you can finish in well under an hour, with just a little glue and patience. Our own Austrian made Serinity crystals give a bright, even sparkle, so a single pack goes a long way around a visor rim. Here is everything you need, then the full method.

Project at a glance

  • Difficulty: Beginner
  • Time: 45 minutes, plus 12 hours to dry
  • Crystals used: Serinity 2088 flatbacks in Citrus Green, SS20

What you'll need

Quantities cover the rim of a standard visor, so scale them to your visor and how much you edge. A retail pack holds 50 crystals, which is plenty for a single rim. Add the crystals, glue and tools to your cart from the cards below. The picker and tray are reusable across every project, so browse the full range of tools and accessories to build your kit.

How to bedazzle a visor

Step 1: Sort your crystals and prepare the glue

Place your crystals into a magic sorting tray, then prepare your syringe with E6000 glue so everything is ready before you start.

Step 2: Allow for the absorbent fabric

Before you begin gluing, keep in mind that the fabric on the visor is absorbent, so you will need to lay down a little more glue than usual for the crystals to grip.

Step 3: Glue the first half of the rim

Working in two sections, place a generous layer of glue along the first half of the rim. Give it a couple of minutes to turn tacky before applying any crystals.

Step 3 of rhinestoning a visor

Step 4: Apply the crystals

Begin placing your crystals around the rim, taking care to keep them as straight and even as you can.

Step 5: Glue and crystal the second half

Once the first half is done, lay another layer of glue along the other half of the rim. Let it get tacky, then carry on placing your crystals to meet the first section.

Step 5 of decorating a visor with rhinestones

Step 6: Adjust and leave to dry

Adjust any crystals while the glue is still tacky, as you will not be able to move them once it dries. Then leave the visor to dry fully for twelve hours.

Frequently asked questions

How do you bedazzle a visor?

Sort your crystals, then glue the rim in two halves: lay a generous layer of glue along the first half, let it turn tacky, and press flatback crystals on in a straight line. Repeat on the second half, adjust while tacky, then leave it to dry fully before wearing.

How many crystals do you need for a visor?

A single rim usually needs around one pack of SS20 flatbacks, roughly 50 crystals, though it depends on the length of your visor and how you space them. Use our Crystal Calculator to estimate by area before you buy, and grab a few spare.

What glue works best on a fabric visor?

A flexible, washable fabric glue such as E6000. The visor fabric is absorbent, so use a little more than usual and let it turn tacky before placing each crystal. It dries clear and flexes with the fabric so the stones stay put.

Should I use hotfix or non-hotfix crystals on a visor?

Non-hotfix, glue-set flatbacks are the easy choice here, as they need no heat and let you line the rim up neatly. Hotfix crystals can work on fabric too, but they need an applicator or iron and are trickier on a curved brim.

Can I wash a bedazzled visor?

Spot clean it rather than washing. Wipe around the crystals with a damp cloth and avoid soaking, as prolonged water and heat loosen the glue over time. Keep it out of the washing machine and let it air dry to keep every stone in place.

Can I change the crystal colour?

Yes. Citrus green suits a fresh summer look, but any shade works, so match it to a cap, outfit or team. We used our own Austrian made Serinity crystals here; you can also use premium Swarovski, Czech made Preciosa or budget Estella.
