The red poppy has become recognisable worldwide as a symbol of remembrance, honouring the sacrifices of those lost in the First World War and beyond. If you wish to customise your poppy with rhinestones, follow the simple instructions below to bling your Poppy with Preciosa Flat Back Crystals for Poppy Day. The crystals suggested in this guide are one of many possible appropriate options and we encourage you to give the embellishment your own voice.
The full list of Preciosa flat back crystals, components and tools needed to complete this project can be found below. If you click on the product description (link), the respective product page will open, where each item can be viewed and added to cart:
Use the Gem Tac to cover a small section of the poppy with a very thin layer of glue.Do not be concerned about the glue being white when it is first applied, it will dry clear. However a thin layer is best because any glue that squishes up over the top of the crystal when it is pressed down will dull the sparkle, this is because it is obscuring the facets of the stone. It is better to work in lots of small patches with a very thin layer of glue and trust that your patience will be rewarded when you reach the end.
Use the Magic Sorting Tray for storing the crystals,if you have more than one type of crystal in your design it is good practice to keep them separate in their own trays so that it is easier to find the exact crystal you need at any time. The Magic Sorting Tray has a special texture that provides just enough friction to flip the crystals over when the tray is gently shaken, this saves a lot of time when doing rhinestone embellishment.
Use the Wax Picker Pen to pick up and place your Preciosa flat back crystals strategically onto the poppy to suit your chosen design. When filling a shape, it is best to start with the outline and work your way in.
Allow the glue to dry, depending on how much glue was used this can range from 10 minutes to an hour.
