How to bedazzle a cuff bracelet

Step 1: Clean the cuff bracelet

Make sure the cuff is completely clean and dry, ready for gluing.

Step 2: Prepare the glue

Fill the glue syringe with enough E6000 for your project. The neatest way is to put the end of the syringe inside the nozzle of the glue tube and pull the plunger while gently squeezing the tube, transferring the glue with minimal mess and air.

Step 3: Guard against air bubbles

If a small air bubble forms in the syringe, hold it upright so the bubble floats to the top, then gently push the plunger until only glue remains. Fit the needle tip to finish.

Step 4: Plan your design

We followed the flow of the swirling loops on the cuff, keeping all the crystals within those edges and flexing up and down in crystal size to suit the available space.

Step 5: Apply the glue

Pipe a thin layer of glue onto the cuff, following your chosen design, and leave it for five to ten minutes to get tacky. Take care not to use too much, and work in small sections, since a cuff is a curved, three-dimensional surface.

Step 6: Place the crystals

Use the wax picker to place the crystals onto the glue, choosing the best size for each part of the swirls and flexing up and down to match the width as it changes. Keep the crystals close together with as few gaps as possible.

Step 7: Leave to dry, then do the other side

Tidy the edges with a little isopropyl alcohol if needed and leave the cuff to dry overnight. Once set, turn it over and repeat for the swirls on the other side.

Frequently asked questions

How do you bedazzle a cuff bracelet?

Clean the cuff, then glue flatback crystals on in small sections with a wax picker, following the shape or pattern of the bracelet. Keep the crystals close together, do one side and let it cure, then turn it and do the other. Leave it to set fully before wearing.

How do you crystal a swirled or patterned design?

Work within the existing lines of the design and flex your crystal size to suit the space, larger stones where the pattern is wide and smaller ones where it narrows. Following the shape like this keeps the crystals neatly contained and makes the most of the bracelet's own detail.

What glue works on a metal cuff?

A strong, flexible adhesive like E6000. Clean and degrease the cuff first, apply a thin layer, and let it sit for five to ten minutes until tacky before placing crystals, working in small sections so the glue does not run on the curved metal.

Will the crystals stay on a bracelet?

Cured E6000 holds firmly and flexes a little with the metal, but a bracelet takes knocks in wear. Let it cure fully before wearing, avoid catching it on hard surfaces, and spot clean rather than soaking it to keep the bond strong.

How many crystals do I need and which sizes?

It depends on your cuff and how much you cover. This design used Indian Siam in SS5, SS9, SS12 and SS16 so the sizes could follow the swirls. Use our Crystal Calculator to estimate by area, and mix sizes to fill the pattern neatly.

Should I use hotfix or non-hotfix, and can I change the colour?

Use non-hotfix, glue-set flatbacks, since heat is not needed and suits a metal cuff. We used rich Indian Siam, but any colour works. These are our own Austrian-made Serinity flatbacks; you can also use premium Swarovski, Czech-made Preciosa or budget Estella.

Make it your own

Try a different colour, an ombre, or crystals only on the raised edges. For more accessory sparkle, see our crystal claw clip and pocket mirror projects, or explore the full Craft Studio.
