How to bedazzle a red nose
Step 1: Prepare the surface
Make sure the nose is completely clean and dry. Any grease or dust will affect how well the glue grips.
Step 2: Prepare the glue
Gem Tac arrives sealed like a tube of paint. Break the seal with the sharp point inside the lid, taking care as there can be some built-up pressure inside, so be ready for a little glue spurt. Then fit the precision applicator tip and you are ready to glue.
Step 3: Apply the glue
Using gentle pressure, place small dots of glue on the nose in your chosen design. Do not apply too much, or it may run across the curved surface, and work in small sections since this is a three-dimensional object.
Step 4: Place the crystals
Use the wax picker to place the crystals onto the glue. We scattered ours outward like freckles for a playful effect. Vary the spacing and the two sizes to suit your own design.
Step 5: Leave to dry
Let the finished nose sit for about half an hour to dry, though drying time will vary with how thickly the glue was applied. Once set, it is ready to wear.
Frequently asked questions
How do you bedazzle a red nose for Red Nose Day?
Clean the nose, then dot glue on and place flatback crystals with a wax picker, working in small sections around the curved surface. A scattered design works really well here. Let it dry fully before wearing or displaying it.
What is Gem Tac glue and how do you use it?
Gem Tac is a tacky craft glue that works on many surfaces. It arrives sealed like a paint tube, so break the seal with the sharp point inside the lid, taking care as there can be pressure built up inside, then fit the precision tip and apply small dots with gentle pressure.
What is a scatter embellishment style?
A scatter places crystals with space between them rather than in solid coverage, often denser in one area and thinning out towards the edges. On this red nose we scattered the crystals outward like freckles, which gives a playful, light-catching finish.
What glue should I use on a plastic red nose?
A strong craft adhesive like Gem Tac or E6000. Make sure the surface is clean and free of grease or dust first, apply small dots rather than a thick layer, and work in small sections so the glue does not run on the curve.
How many crystals do I need?
It is a small item, so not many. This design used Light Siam in SS9 and SS12. Use our Crystal Calculator to estimate by area if you want fuller coverage, and order a few extra to allow for your design.
Can I change the colour or use a different base?
Yes. We used Light Siam to suit the red theme, but any colour works, and the same method works on most small decorations, not just a charity nose. These are our own Austrian-made Serinity flatbacks; you can also use premium Swarovski, Czech-made Preciosa or budget Estella.
