Instructions
Step 1
Plan your design
Lay your jacket on a flat, well-lit surface and decide where you want to place the sew-on star design, we opted for the lapel because that location will catch plenty of light.
Step 2
Prepare the crystals
Arrange the crystals onto the jacket, ensuring you have all of the shapes and sizes listed above for your design. If you are replicating our design exactly you will need to follow the pattern shown below. We recommend gluing the crystals in place first as this will help to hold them in the correct position for long enough for you to then secure them permanently in place with thread.
Step 3
Prepare your thread
To guarantee a strong and long-lasting piece of beadwork it’s best to condition your thread before you begin. Do this by running the thread through the waxy substance of the Bead Buddy several times before you start. That waxy coating will guard against fraying and the risk of decay over time. You will even find the thread is easier to work with because it’s less likely to tangle. Then you can cut your desire length and thread it through the size 12 beading needle.
Step 4
Begin sewing
Start by anchoring your thread inside the jacket, either on a seam or under a layer of fabric, to secure the knot. Insert the needle from the back of the fabric, passing it through the provided sewing holes of the stone or crystal, then come back through to the backside of the fabric. Pull the thread gently until the crystal or stone is securely attached to the jacket.
Step 5
Sew on the star design
Following your planned layout, continue sewing each crystal stone in setting onto the jacket.
Step 6
Secure loose ends
After attaching each crystal or stone, make sure to tie a secure knot on the backside of the fabric to prevent individual crystals from coming loose. Trim any excess thread close to the knot to keep the finished design neat.
Step 7
Finishing touches
To create the full shooting star design shown above cut the baguette cupchain with the Side Cutters into your desired lengths and glue down the top baguette and when the glue is dry sew over the link between the top two crystals. This is enough to hold the chain to the jacket and still allow for plenty of satisfying swoosh and sway.
