Instructions

Step 1

Prepare Your Workspace

For this project you are going to need a large flat, well-lit area to neatly spread out your tools so that everything is in easy reach for the rhinestone embellishment and so that you can leave it to dry without risk of disturbance.

Step 2

Prep the surface of the bag

Before diving into the embellishment process, ensure your red lips bag is clean and free of dirt or grease. If the surface is shiny, gently buff the area with sandpaper so that the surface becomes matt, this will provide a ‘key’ for the glue to grip to, ensuring a strong bond with the resin glue and crystals.

Step 3

Prepare the glue

Fill the Crystal FX Glue Syringe with enough E6000 Plus Resin Glue for your project, be careful to not take more glue than you need. The easiest way to do this is to place the end of the syringe inside the nozzle of the E6000 Plus glue tube and pull the plunger on the syringe while gently squeezing the tube of glue. This will transfer the glue from the tube to the syringe with minimal mess and exposure to the air.

Step 4

Guard against air bubbles in the glue syringe

Once the plunger is securely back in, you are likely to have a section of air inside the syringe. To fix this simply hold the syringe vertically so that the glue slides down away from the opening at the top and gently push on the plunger, pushing the air out until there is only glue left inside. You can then attach the needle tip, completing the syringe.

Step 5

Apply the glue

Fill the Crystal FX syringe part way with E6000 resin glue and cover the outside border with a thin line of glue. Allow 10 minutes for the glue to become tacky, this section of glue will have approximately one hour of work time before it starts drying and will take 24 hours to fully cure. 

Step 6

Place the crystals

Use the Magic Sorting Tray for storing the crystals while you work and use the Wax Picker Tool to pick up and place each rhinestone onto the lips handbag using concentric lines, beginning with the outer edge. When filling a shape, it is best to start with the outline and work your way in as this helps you guarantee nice clean edges. As you progress with the design use the Siam as the shadows, Light Siam as the main colour of the lips and then use Padparadscha for the highlights. Towards the end of the embellishment, you will have small gaps that the SS16 crystals will be too big for, fill these remains gaps with the SS7 rhinestones.

STEP 7

Let the glue dry

Allow the glue to dry overnight, once the glue is safely dry it is ready to wear and is waterproof so if you find yourself dealing in bad weather you won’t have to worry about crystals falling off!
