How To Rhinestone Your Eyewear

How To Rhinestone Your Eyewear With Serinity Crystals

We at Bluestreak Crystals love offering sparkling inspiration on our social media channels. Every so often, an idea catches on and we suddenly receive an influx of several variations of the same request via our embellishment service. By far the most common current customization, is the asymmetrical glasses embellishment, featuring tiny non hotfix rhinestones from our high-quality Serinity flatback crystals range. We want to share a few craft secrets from inside the Bluestreak Crystals creative studio, so that you too, can join the growing trend of having a twinkle in your eye.

Step By Step Tutorial

  1. Begin by ensuring the surface of the glasses are clean and free from any grease as this could interfere with the glue.
  2. Select the correct glue for the type of material being embellished, CG500 Two Part Epoxy Resin Glue is a good choice because it is strong and dries clear, solid and waterproof.
  3. Have the Serinity crystals stored ready in Magic Sorting Trays, it’s a good idea to keep the different stones sizes separate using several trays.
  4. If the frames of the glasses are shiny, carefully sand the surface with a file or sandpaper, to create a rough key for the glue to grip to. We recommend covering the lenses with masking tape to reduce the risk of scratching the glass.
  5. Apply a very thin layer of the CG500 resin glue to the embellishment area and leave it approximately 15 minutes to get tacky.
  6. Gently place the flat back rhinestones onto the glue with the help of a Wax Picker Tool which should be held like a pencil.
  7. We recommend using 4 to 5 different crystal sizes for a good, tight embellishment. In our example we used Serinity Montana in SS5 to SS12.
  8. Once all of the crystals are in position, allow the glue several hours to dry and fully cure, ideally overnight depending on how thickly the glue was applied.
