Swarovski crystals can be used in a wide range of different projects. When you’re working with clothing, you generally have two main options – use hotfix or non-hotfix crystals. The question is, which is better?
The size of the job
One of the main things you’ll need to consider when trying to choose which crystals are right for you, is the size of the job. How many crystals are you going to need to use on each piece of clothing? If the answer is quite a lot, you’ll be better off opting for Swarovski hotfix crystals.
These give you the opportunity to transfer a large batch of crystals simultaneously using a heat source such as an iron. However, if the job is quite small, you may be better off using non-hotfix crystals.
The importance of a trial run
Whichever method you’re thinking of using, it’s worth doing a trial run. This means applying the crystals, leaving them to set and then carrying out a wash. You can see how well the crystals hold up under a standard wash cycle. This will help you to determine whether hotfix or non-hotfix crystals are better.
It also gives you the opportunity to test out the adhesive and application process. Some adhesives are better than others, so you may need to experiment with different glues if you’re using non-hotfix crystals.
Which is right for you?
We’ve already talked about choosing the right crystals based upon the size of the job. Many people also make their decision based upon budget. Swarovski Non-hotfix crystals do tend to be a little cheaper. However, did you know that at Bluestreak crystals, we offer great discounted wholesale packs? This makes both Swarovski hotfix and Swarovski non-hotfix crystals affordable to buy in bulk. You can contact us to find out more.
Finally, the material of the clothing will also determine which crystals you should use. If you’re working with a waxy or leather surface, non-hotfix crystals would be the better option.
As you can see, there are a few factors to consider before choosing which crystals would be better used on clothing. Remember, it’s a good idea to do a test run in order to determine which crystals and adhesives work best.
