Jewellery Ideas with Swarovski Pearls

There are 101 reasons to start making your own jewellery. You might have a big event coming up that requires some bling (but affordable) accessories. You might want to make some extra money by selling your work online or at a craft market. Or perhaps you’re just seeking a fun hobby that will let you switch off after a long day at work.

Whatever the reason, the fantastic thing about jewellery making is that it’s hugely versatile – you can tailor your materials and designs depending on your individual tastes and budget.

Though pearls are often associated with words like "traditional" and "classic", they can be adapted to suit many different jewellery tastes. Browse the Swarovski pearl bead range available from Bluestreak, and you’ll find everything you need to make gorgeous, affordable items that will wow your family and friends.

Simple Pearl Studs

If you’re new to jewellery making, start simple with some pearl studs. Take two half-drilled Swarovski pearl beads and earring stud posts that fit the same size bead. Fix the posts in some Blu Tack or a cork, then put a little adhesive (epoxy resin works well) onto the post where the pearl will sit. Place the pearls carefully onto the posts and allow them to dry – and voilà! You have an inexpensive, classy pair of studs.

Strings of Pearls

If you want to make necklaces or bracelets, check out our range of Swarovski Crystal Round Pearls. Our round medium pearls and round large pearls have 0.8mm thread holes, which means they can be easily threaded.
There are many different ways of threading a necklace or bracelet. One simple technique involves some silk thread, two necklace ends, a lobster clasp, a jump ring, and a small amount of glue.

Secure the tip of the thread in a necklace clasp (using a tiny bit of glue), then make a knot. Thread the first pearl, make another knot, and thread another pearl. Repeat until you have reached your desired length. Make a final knot, attach the other necklace end, and then add the lobster clasp and jump ring.

You can find necklace ends, lobster clasps and jump rings in our Findings shop.

Pearl Drops

Swarovski Crystal Drop Pearls are perfect for making pendant necklaces or earrings. They have a partial drill hole, which means – when they’re being used for earrings – they require an adhesive and two particular types of finding: caps (which are "plugged" into the holes) and earwires. The caps should be attached with adhesive to the pearls by the drill holes; the earwire is then attached to the cap.

A pendant necklace can be made in a similar way – you just need to decide on a finding style and chain which suit your design.
